ASSU STRIKE: GOVERNMENT, LECTURERS, WILL BE MEETING TOMORROW The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Tuesday agreed that it would honour invitation from the Federal Government to resume the suspended talks tomorrow on the on-going strike and its demands. ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the union had received invitation for the meeting and will act accordingly. Prof Ogunyemi said: “Yes, we are in receipt of the invitation by government and will honour it.” He, however, declined to speak more on the issue. Those expected at tomorrow’s meeting, aside ASUU delegation, include Minister of Education, Minister of Finance, Chairman, National Income Salaries and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC) and the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).                                        Report reaching us has it that the academic staff union of universities has resolved to embark on an indefinite strike action. This followed an extensive deliberation that lasted for three days. All members of the union have been directed against going to teach or involving themselves in any academic activity.       A document titled “Strike Bulletin No.1”, which was signed and issued by Ogunyemi, ASUU said the strike action was to be a total, comprehensive and indefinite action whereby no form of academic activities including teaching, attendance of any meeting, conduct and supervision of any examination at any level, supervision of project or thesis at any level should take place at any of the nation’s universities. Just coming in, Students of public schools in Ogun State who sat for the May/June 2016 West African Examination Council (WAEC) Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) have appealed to Governor Ibikunle Amosun to dialogue with the examination body to release their results. WAEC has earlier refused to release the results of the students because of the debt owed it by the state government.
